Massage Magazine- Working With High-Profile Massage Clients Pre-COVID-19 & During The Pandemic

My latest piece for Massage Magazine, “Working With High-Profile Massage Clients Pre-COVID-19 & During The Pandemic” is live here. 📖

During this unprecedented time I’ve found a deeper love for self-care, conversations and yoga sessions over FaceTime and Zoom, binge watching Netflix shows, pool workouts, and lots of hiking and exploring the beautiful mountains nearby. We have to continue to keep our mental and physical health strong.

What have you been doing to improve your health and wellness during this time? 💪🏽💜

Aaron Donald Gets a Massage & Self-Care Tips For NFL Athletes

I played water polo for 11 years, and 5 of those years were at the Divison 1 level with San Jose State University. I wrecked havoc on my body and watched all of my athlete friends do the same. It’s amazing that I fell into massage therapy, treating fellow athletes was always a dream and it’s been such a fun journey. Since 2005 I have massaged NFL athletes. I usually see my clients consistently twice a week. With my experience, I believe that an athletes career will last longer if self-care is a top priority. That goes for both the athlete and massage therapist!

Aaron Donald Gets a Massage By Michelle RozzenFor the past five years I’ve been working with Aaron Donald, defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams. His body performs the way it does because self-care is key to his success. Nutrition is another key to high performance and recovery, but we will chat about that another time.

I haven’t met one NFL athlete yet without some type of ache or pain in their body. Some self-care tips for NFL athletes (and any other type of athlete) can benefit from regular weekly massages, cupping, graston, yoga, foam rolling, compression pants, epsom salt baths, and rest is certainly all essential for every athlete.

I often speak to my clients about recovery and self-care.  My favorites include massage, yoga, Michelle Rozzen Epsom salt baths and essential oil products, ice, heat, Rapid Reboot , Hyperice products, and simply taking a rest day .

My friend Kris Chrisp (@krischrisp) recently wrote a post on the Art of Recovery.
He says, “Most athletes seek to optimize performance, sufficient RECOVERY is sometimes overlooked. Recovery is marked by the athlete’s return to resting function and physical performance. Therefore, an imbalance between exercise and recovery can result in a fatigue state and a reduction in physical performance marked by either a decrease in force production. Recovering EFFECTIVELY is one of the most critical determinants of an athlete’s success. How do you recover?”

NFL season is just around the corner and I’ve been working with Aaron, preparing him for what’s to come. Check out a sneak peak of our recent session and leave a comment below the video.

Thank you Aaron for trusting me to be your massage therapist. It’s always an honor to work with you!

NBA Awards Show

At the end of June I was blessed to travel with my client to New York for the first-ever NBA Awards Show. Traveling to the city that never sleeps is always a good time; especially since this trip was all about me working late hours and on-call!

Billboard Music Awards 2017

I love traveling with my clients, I feel so fortunate where my work has taken me over the years. It’s my favorite thing to do, as I get to explore a new city, meet new people and work crazy hours! This summer I have been very busy locally in Los Angeles and out of state.

This year I was lucky enough to be in Las Vegas for the Billboard Music Awards, held at the T-Mobile Arena. It was my first time at this event and I’m so blessed to have been in attendance. There were so many amazing artists that performed, and some of my favorites were; Drake, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, John Legend, Bruno Mars, Sam Hunt, and Ed Sheeran. Everyone was so amazing!

During the Billboard Music Awards 2017 I worked late nights through the early morning, and it’s becoming more and more normal for me. I love my crazy schedule, it’s what makes my life so entertaining!

Thank you to my client for inviting me to be a part of your team!

Below are some photos from the weekend in Sin City!

Canna Massage

CannaMassage_MichelleRozzen

With over 10 years of massage therapy experience, I finally got turned on to Canna Massage Oil. I knew cannabis was an amazing healing tool already when ingested, so I had to try it topically in my massage practice. I’m always trying to expand and provide the best options for my clients.  So, when my friend in Hawaii suggested using cannabis massage oils and salves, I decided to try it and was soon hooked!

Infused massage oils don’t get you stoned. But they do have a way of opening up the skins sensory, and making you feel elevated and relaxed. I’ve used cannabis massage oils on athletes, musicians, and older folks.

When you combine these oils with an experienced massage therapist, the cannabis oil becomes a very powerful tool against pain.

Apply gently to the skins surface, rub it in, and allow time for the oil to take root below the skin surface, muscles and tendons. The pain will subside when you use topical cannabinoids, because they are antioxidants and an anti-inflammatory agents. It will relieve many ailments and you will sleep like a baby. I’m a fan!

Here are more reasons to get turned on to a Canna Massage Oil…

Sports Massage Interview

I’m so thankful for my loyal clientele and my blossoming massage empire. I want to share an interview I had recently because it expresses some information that many of you probably do not know about my massage career and sports massage. Check out my interview below!

Real Mom of SFV Massage Interview

Real Mom of SFV Massage Interview

Last week I was featured on Real Mom of SFV, a personal blog written & edited by Jennifer Miyagishima. The blog is about food, fitness, motherhood, pop culture and local businesses in the Los Angeles area & San Fernando Valley.  When Jen asked if she could interview me, of course I said YES! I did hesitate for a minute though, because this is a blog for moms, and I’m NOT a mother! However, I do provide massage services to lots of moms, and an interview will introduce me to the Real Mom of SFV community.
Check out the Real Mom of SFV Massage Interview article here. Learn about my massage career and fun journey I’ve taken along the way. You can also click here for the PDF file: RealMomOfSFV
Thanks Jen for the great interview!

Back in March I was invited onto JENeration iHeart radio show with Jen Tapiero. It was my first radio interview, and I was excited to have done it along side a friend of mine. Singer, Vernon Burris and I were both guests and spoke about How music is therapeutic!!!! As you know, I’m a massage therapist and most of my clients are in the music and entertainment industry. In the interview, I gave advice about life, how to handle stress, how massages help control stress and the mind & body. Vernon discussed his upcoming music and tour life with Justin Bieber and many other artists.

Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 Experience World Tour

It’s always a good time when I’m massaging backstage with The Tennessee Kids at the Justin Timberlake 20/20 Experience World Tour show. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to work with Team Bassic Black, and The Tennessee Kids at The Forum.

Rock It 2 The Core

The day after Halloween I provided my massage therapy services to the talent at the Rock It 2 the Core event at Calabasas High School. It’s an annual a rock infused, charity driven yoga event empowering local youth & raising funds for Unlikely Heroes to fight human trafficking.

Walk to DeFeat ALS Los Angeles

This past weekend I took part in the annual Walk to DeFeat ALS in Los Angeles, with The ALS Association Golden West Chapter. This was my 12th year participating in the walk, and it’s a very bittersweet day for my family. On Sunday October 19th, at Exposition Park, near USC in downtown Los Angeles, I set up my massage booth. This was the third year providing massage at the ALS Walk, and I feel so honored to do so, as it’s very near and dear to my heart.

Detox Weight Loss: Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

…a little history on ACV and all of the benefits, is that users say it will help boost energy and your immune system, it will cure high blood pressure, allergies and arthritis, help with poor digestion. There is not a great amount of research, however based on my daily intake of it over the years it does indeed help with weight loss and sugar cravings.

BlackRoll Foam Rollers

When I get out of bed in the morning I often trip over my BLACKROLL® foam rollers on my floor. They are a reminder to foam roll first thing in the morning and the last thing before going to sleep.

Do you foam roll? If not, you must start adding this to your daily routine! I highly recommend foam roller exercises for alleviating body aches and pains. I’m a massage therapist, so I have to care for my body more than most, and foam rolling is second nature to me. Plus, I have been an athlete my entire life, so massage and foam rolling have always been something I’ve always done to feel better. I’ve been rolling since college in 2000, so I’ve had plenty of experience testing out different products.

Foam Roller Exercise Fun!

Last year I worked with with Alicia Keys during their tour prep. It was an amazing experience! Since then I have worked with many bands, dancers and performers while they travel thru Los Angeles. During the AK tour prep, I was working with the dancers, band and crew; not only doing massage but also incorporating a lot of stretching in the routine I did. I also preached how important foam roller exercises can be, especially for the dancers. This blog post was written with the AK Tour team in mind.
